The Fountain of Youth
I was talking to someone the other day who had heard an interesting
tidbit of information in their sociology class at college.
They were asked whether American women of today’s generation look
older or younger than women 40 to 60 years ago. Without exception,
everyone agreed that the women of today’s generation look
remarkably younger. The discussion continued as to the
cause…better diet, more exercise, good skin care…but the most
obvious reason is that 40 percent of women in America get their
hair dyed, beginning at about age 20.
At first I wasn’t sure I believed that, but then I started looking
at pictures…pictures in family albums, in old magazines, watching
old movies, and sure enough, today’s women just look
stunning! They don’t gray as early in their lives and that
keeps them looking young. Hair dye is a veritable fountain of
youth!
Do men dye their hair? You bet they do! They dye hair
for the same reason, but they have an interesting problem.
Too much gray and they just look old, ready for retirement, despite
their young age. Too much color and they look too young to do
the job. Many men are opting for a partial color job where
they have just enough gray to look mature and knowledgeable, but
enough color to look like they have enough vitality to really get
after the job they’re hired to do.
The color of one’s hair is a very personal matter. If you’re
not quite sure that you really want to do a full color, you may
want to have your stylist give you highlights or lowlights.
Highlights have been around as long as lemon juice and summertime,
but lowlights are a relatively new trend and it is a hot
one!
Wintertime is usually the best time to get lowlights in your hair
because it is colder, and most women are looking for richer color
in their hair. Lowlights come in reds, plums, and auburns.
They add texture, warmth, and depth to your hair without the total
commitment of choosing a full color. Some women find a combination
of several colors of lowlights give them the very best results
because they add such natural stunning depth to your hair that no
one can tell that you’ve colored your hair. Touchups need to
be done about every 6 – 10 weeks, more often if you sport a
shorter, layered style.
Talk to your stylist today about that fountain of youth.
You’re worth it!
Yummy Pumpkin-Bread Pudding
1 loaf raisin cinnamon swirl bread
12 oz. cream (or half and half)
15 oz. can pumpkin (solid pack)
2 eggs
½ cup sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. ginger
¼ tsp. cloves
½ tsp. salt
½ cup chopped pecans
whipped topping
Cube raisin bread and place into a greased casserole dish. Mix
cream, pumpkin, sugar, eggs, and spices together, blending
completely. Pour over the cubed bread. Sprinkle the pecans
over the top. Garnish with crystal sugar (get at a cake decorating
shop). Bake in a preheated 400° oven for about 30 minutes.
The custard should be set. Allow to rest 15 – 20 minutes
prior to serving with whipped topping. YUMMY!!!
Gratitude Attitude
Have you ever kept a gratitude journal? Research has proven
that if you write down one or two things in a gratitude journal
each day, you will be significantly happier than your non-grateful
friends. Keep your words simple and from the heart. This is
one of the fastest and easiest ways to becoming a happier
person.
